Herring Roe, Lemon & Toast.

These may not look appetising on the fish counter, but fry them up, add some lemon and they are really delicious as a lunchtime snack for two. Herring Roe, as far as I know are pretty much over looked and generally not used much.

This is partly due to their availability, really only a couple of weeks of the year and also their texture (when raw) even the woman at the fish counter double checked that I really wanted herring roe, I assured her I did and she reluctantly gave me 200g.



Well she doesn't know what she's missing!

Enough for two for 88p, all you need are some adventurous taste buds, some flour and lemon.

First coat your herring roe in flour. Thoroughly toss them until they are completely coated.



Then melt some butter and olive oil in a pan and place in your flour coated herring roe they should start to sizzle nicely.

Wait until the herring roe have turned golden brown and then serve with buttered toast and a few lemon wedges.





Delicious, wont break the bank, and still a foodie secret!
